A leading Iberian medical platform for the treatment of obesity, partnered with Abac to scale a science-led, clinician-supervised model across Spain and Portugal.
The opportunity
Pronokal had built a differentiated, clinically supervised treatment for severe obesity, but its commercial reach across Iberia and Latin America was still nascent. We saw a category leader in the making, supported by tailwinds in metabolic health and rising clinical awareness.
The thesis: institutionalise the operations, expand the clinical network, and accelerate international expansion through both organic growth and selected M&A.
What we did
We backed the management team to expand the medical network across Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Colombia, while professionalising commercial, marketing and quality operations. We strengthened the Board with independent directors and operating partners with deep healthcare and consumer experience.
Over five years, the platform doubled the number of treated patients, broadened its clinical evidence base, and reached a level of scale that made it attractive to a global strategic acquirer.
Outcome
Pronokal was acquired in 2022 by Nestlé Health Science, delivering a strong return for our investors and a strategic home for the management team to continue scaling globally.
